This Valentine’s Day, if you feel your romance is on the rocks, or that maybe the grass would be greener on the single side of life, global travel search company Skyscanner has some suggestions for the top spots to travel to in order to farewell to your not-so-significant other.
1. United Arab Emirates
With a high male to female ratio, the UAE is one of the best places for ladies to ditch their man and find a new replacement. This country is also famous for its gold, so maybe it’s time to buy yourself that golden ring he promised to buy, but never did.
2. Bangkok
With its dazzling nightlife and endless temptations, this vibrant City of Fallen Angels is one of the worst places to be in a relationship. With the hottest bar spots in town towering many stories above the bustling city, finding a new international flirtation is likely to make your heart soar. And if you do happen to get lonely, you can always visit one of the pet cafes: unlike your ex, those fluffy, cute animals never lie! And give great cuddles.
3. Singapore
You just couldn’t take it any longer and broke it off during your “romantic” trip to Singapore? But fear not if you suddenly feel sad – all the sales and bargains in Singaporean Malls will fill that gaping hole where your heart used to be. Who needs love when you can have those fabulous designer shoes or suit?
4. Tokyo
Don’t be scared to be “lost in translation” - The city has a lot to offer a newly single you, from delicious food, shopping, rich culture to bizarre otaku attractions. Did we mention if you get lonely you can always stop by the famous so-ine (cuddle café) in the Akihabara district? For a fee, you can sleep in the arms of a beautiful stranger, without the hanky-panky of course. And we already know how much Thai people love Japan – so no one goes home broken-hearted.
5. Reykjavík
We don’t suggest you push your other half down the crater of Eyjafjallajökull (no, seriously, we don’t!), but what can be better than ditching your horrible ex while holidaying miles away from Thailand in the Land of Ice and Fire? Fear not the cold and celebrate the start of your single life by joining the locals on the rúntur – a massive bar crawl around Reykjavík, and one of the reasons for Icelanders’ reputation as party animals. And if you fancy your chances of a rebound relationship with your very own Jon Snow or Daenerys, this would be the place to go. According to Skyscanner’s 2015 Travel Trends, Iceland is expected to boom in popularity thanks to its role as the backdrop for many a dramatic scenes in the popular TV series, Game of Thrones.
6. Chiang Mai
If travelling to the other side of the world to ditch you partner seems too extreme, why not take a quick flight to Chiang Mai? The air is still on the cool side, matching your icy heart. Besides, the city is known as the artistic capital of Thailand. Who knows, maybe you will meet your new bohemian love here?
7. Rio de Janeiro
Valentine’s Day falls on the second day of the famous Rio carnival and nothing beats breaking up in the middle of samba extravaganza. Embrace Brazilian hedonistic approach to life and join thousands of people, celebrating joi de vivre. Thanks to the 2014 World Cup and the upcoming 2016 Olympics, Rio is teeming with sexy sportspeople to get your heartbeat racing. According to Skyscanner’s 2015 Travel Trends, Brazil is heating up on Thai people’s radars as an emerging travel destination.
For more information or travel inspiration head to www.skyscanner.co.th (Thai and English) or download the app for iPhone and Android – and enjoy your newly found single status! Don’t forget one of the perks of breaking up while travelling is you get the whole, comfy hotel bed to yourself.
